Segev Shalom Comprehensive High School
The
school was established in 1989 as a junior high school. It started with nine
classes (grades 7 to 9). The principal and staff insisted that the school
grow. Eventually, by the year 1993, the school encompassed grades 7 to 12.
The school serves the Segev Shalom village and the tribes living near by (a
total of 40,000 inhabitants). Among the tribes being served, Al-Azazma, is
the largest in the area. Over the last 12 years, Al-Azazma, like the other
tribes, has had their children reach academic studies for the first time.
Today, thanks to Segev Shalom High School, there are many doctors, lawyers,
teachers, social workers and nurses in these tribes.
The school exposes its pupils to the modern world by running various
projects of interest that benefit of both the pupils and to society. Most
projects are carried out with the guidance and support of academic
institutes and other bodies with educational interests. One of the school's
goals is to help direct the radical social changes in the conservative
Bedouin society. As these social changes are inevitable, the school wishes
to lead the Bedouin into constructive and optimistic alternatives. Educating
the young generation and supporting
them
in the planning of their future can achieve this challenging goal.
Nowadays, Segev Shalom Comprehensive High School consists of 49 classes
(grades 7 to 12), 1618 pupils and 107 teachers. The school offers its
students many fields of specialization and the students take scientific,
social and technological majors. Segev Shalom High School is committed to
producing graduates of the highest caliber.
