UNESCO
Arts-based Activities for HIV/AIDS
Education
In 2004-2005,
Global Youth Voices conducted a pilot project with the
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO),
www.unesco.org.
UNESCO-associated schools in
Mozambique,
Vietnam,
Slovenia
and Egypt
used visual arts to explore HIV through the perspective
of emotional, physical and social health.
The Global Youth Voices process
honors UNESCO’s commitment to the 4 Pillars of
Education.
Learning to
know - by thinking
critically about community concerns
Learning to
be - by establishing
values in relation to issues under discussion
Learning to
do - by developing
practical skills for self-expression and community
action
Learning to
live together - by
addressing community concerns
